buster9 | Hello! This is my first post here My Dad took me and several other siblings to witness the launch of Apollo 11. A gentleman walking through the crowds of people approached my Dad and was selling four banners. We bought one of them. It is neon orange/16x4 in. and reads in black letters: "Remove Before Flight". The seller gave us this information regarding the banner: This tag was removed from the Apollo 11 complex the day before flight to the moon. It was an information reminder to Federal Electric Corporation to remove communication from the launching umbilical tower to prevent it from being burned by fire from the rocket tail upon lift-off. I had always wondered what happened to that banner and when my Mom moved after my Dad's passing, I found it in a box. It is SUCH a treasure! Can anyone give me any information about this piece of memorabilia or authenticate it? Thank you for your time!-Mary Beth |
Greggy_D | If you are able to post pictures, it would help greatly with the identification of the item. And WELCOME to collectSPACE! |
Charlie16 | Welcome on board! E-mail sent. |
buster9 | Thank you for your most kind words of welcome! I will post a picture soon! Also, I forgot to add that there is number code on the back of the banner: "FEC STA 4-8" and the measurements were incorrect. It is 18x3 inches. |
Lou Chinal | Number codes are very IMPORTANT! |
buster9 | Hello Lou! Are you referring to the FEC STA 4-8 on the back of the banner? I will send a picture as soon as my husband and/or daughter help me out! I'm not very send-pic's savvy! |
buster9 | Here is a picture of the banner: |
buster9 | Can anyone give me any information or credence that this was really actually on the Apollo 11 tower complex? |
Joel Katzowitz | Is the material fabric or plastic, it's hard to tell from the photo. |
buster9 | Hello! The material is plastic |
